What is your area of expertise? Imaging Informatics

How does your professional experience relate to your role as Chief Reviewer?

I have been working as an Imaging Informatics Professional for the past 25 years in a well-known private tertiary care hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I expand the horizon with Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, 3D Medical Printing, etc., and I work with healthcare professionals to ensure that imaging data is used effectively in patient care and research with a patient-centric approach.

Apart from my job, I have engaged with the local community and participated in different kinds of social activities, including volunteering for cultural celebration events. Being abroad, I help the community by teaching Tamil language and its culture to the younger generations. I also contribute to non-profit, community-based organizations that serve the Tamil Community, and I enjoy promoting Tamil culture through media, such as writing articles, publishing papers, etc.

What do you like most about being a translation reviewer?
Tamil is one of the oldest living languages in the world and has a rich cultural heritage. The language is known for its complex and nuanced grammar, as well as its elegant and expressive vocabulary. It is primarily spoken in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, as well as in the Union Territory of Puducherry. It is also spoken by a significant population in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Mauritius, and Malaysia, as well as by smaller communities in other countries around the world. Tamil reflects the rich cultural heritage of its speakers and offers a unique window into the history and traditions of South India and Sri Lanka.

I work closely with the Tamil translation review team to ensure that the translations are consistent and adhere to the Toastmasters International guidelines. I would say the opportunity to review and improve the accuracy and fluency of Tamil translations is a rewarding experience. It allows me to ensure that the translations accurately convey the intended meaning and cultural context, making it more accessible and understandable for Tamil speakers. Additionally, it also allows me to gain a deeper understanding of the language and its nuances, which helps me to improve my own language skills.

"I'm excited to be a Lead Reviewer for a language so rich in heritage and literature. With the advent of Pathways, we're up to speed on the skills required for today's world and and the educational tools and technology best suited for millennials as well as other generations.

It is exhilarating to collaborate with a team of wonderful Tamil-speaking toastmasters living in different parts of the world, to collectively produce materials that we can be proud of. Having been a beneficiary of the toastmasters movement, I see this as a way of paying back and paying forward.

With the materials available in Tamil, millions of Tamil speakers can now learn how to communicate and lead competently, in their own language. In addition, I believe we now have an opportunity to create interest for Tamil language among the youngsters who come from Tamil-speaking ancestry."
